What is YEC

 

YEC stands for Young Explorers Cluba one a kind Wilderness survival, environmental action and adventure sports program.

The program is designed to give young adolecents the opportunity to develop their passion for adventure the environment and exploration and to teach them to be change agents for the health of the planet’s ecosystems as well as their own health and well-being.

This unique and exciting program has been created by Martin Horn, built upon the legacy of the Pangaea Young Explorers Program under the patronage of Mike Horn.

This unique program is open to English speaking youth (intermediate level proficiency in English is required)

About our Camps

The focus of  all the Young Explorers camps are based on a socio-ecologic model incorporating wilderness survival skills, outdoor activities, environmental study, leadership, physiological wellness and nutrition.

During these camps the participants will be taken out of their comfort zones where they will be challenged both mentally and physically, with the objective to Explore, Learn and Act

“Its all about challenges, about succeeding and exploring. It’s about learning and teaching with nature but most of all, it’s about living.”

Project-based learning activities encourage respect for self and others, environmental stewardship, and the development of leadership skills.
These camps are open to English speaking youth ages 13 – 16 years (intermediate level proficiency in English is required)

WE OFFER 4 DIFFERENT CAMPS

  • Summer Camp – 10 Day Adventure Camp(07.07.2019 – 16.07.2019)
  • Autumn Camp – 5 Day Adventure Camp (12.10.2019 – 16.10.2019)
  • Winter Camp – 5 Day Adventure Camp (February/March 2020, dates TBA)
  • Yearly Club Members Camps – 6 weekend camps per year from April – December 2020 (dates TBA)

Wilderness survival Skills

  • How to survive in nature from nature with basic and advanced survival skills.
  • How to make a fire.
  • How to build a shelter.
  • How to find water.
  • How to find food.
  • How to cross rivers.
  • Orientation.
  • Wilderness first aid and rescue.
  • How to plan and prepare for an expedition.
Outdoor Sports
  • Mountaineering, Rock Climbing and Hiking ( Summer, Autumn and Winter)
  • Wintersports (Winter only, snow shoe touring, ski touring, skiing and Ice Climbing)
  • Sailing (Summer and Autumn)
  • White Water Activities ie river rafting, canyoning and kayaking ( Summer and Autmn)
  • Mountain Biking (Summer and Autumn)
  • Swimming (Summer, Autumn and Winter)

Environmental Science

  • Water: Rivers, lakes and Oceans
  • Glaciology

Other

  • Map work and Orientation
  • Photography and Videography
  • How to plan and prepare for an Expedition
  • Sport Science workshops about how to train and keep fit.
  • Each of the above mentioned specialisation fields will be lead and taught by qualified instructors/ guides and teachers which are experts in their respective fields.
  • At the start of the Program each participant will undergo a physiological test to be able to determine fitness level and to give feedback on level of current fitness.

What does it include?
As a member you would be entitled to participate in 6 weekend camps per year (Saturday and Sunday).
Arrival Saturday morning 8h and departure Sunday afternoon 17h30
The membership fee will cover the costs for all activities, technical equipment, food, accommodation and transport during the the camps

Where?
All camps will be hosted in Switzerland, in the region of Chateau-d’Oex and Gstaad.
